Submitting a takedown notice
If you believe material on Lantern infringes a copyright you own or represent, send a written notice to the agent above. To be valid under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your notice must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
- Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and information reasonably sufficient to locate it on Lantern (for example, the Lantern ID, usually in the format
LNTN-xxxxxxxx, and the URL of the/verify/LNTN-xxxxxxxxpage). - Contact information for the complainant (address, telephone number, and, if available, email address).
- A statement that the complainant has a good-faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complainant is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
A notice missing any of these elements may not be legally effective and we may not be able to act on it. Please send complete notices.
What happens after we receive a notice
- On receipt of a valid takedown notice, Lantern will promptly revoke the identified registration (the record will be marked revoked on-chain and displayed as revoked on its
/verifypage). - We will notify the registering user that their content has been removed in response to a DMCA notice and forward them a copy of the notice.
- The registering user may submit a counter-notice (see below).
Submitting a counter-notice
If your Lantern registration has been revoked pursuant to a DMCA notice and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notice to the agent above. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3), a counter-notice must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that was removed and the location at which it appeared before removal (the Lantern ID).
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and telephone number.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if you reside outside the United States, for any judicial district in which Lantern may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who submitted the original notice or their agent.
Upon receipt of a valid counter-notice, Lantern will forward it to the original complainant. Unless the complainant files a court action within 10 to 14 business days, we may restore the registration.
Repeat-infringer policy
Lantern will terminate the accounts of users who are determined to be repeat infringers of copyright. "Repeat infringer" means a user against whom Lantern has received two or more independently valid DMCA takedown notices within a rolling twelve-month period. Termination includes disabling the account, revoking all content registered by the account, and blocking the associated email from re-registration.
False claims
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification, may be liable for damages. Please do not submit false or abusive notices or counter-notices.
